Tutorial : Triangular negative space nails

Sunday, May 15, 2016

This design is timeless. You can wear any time of the year in whichever color you prefer. I used a baby blue polish, silver striping tape and a mattifying top coat. This nail art is super quick and easy, but the result is very chic!

Tutorial
  1. Apply a base coat to smooth the surface of your nails and to prevent them from staining.
  2. Paint your index, major and pinky in blue, or any color you wish. For best results, make sure the surface is opaque and smooth.
  3. On you other fingers (thumb and ring finger), use striping tape or any other tape in your possession (ie. masking tape) as a guide for the two triangular shapes pointing each other. Keep it as symmetrical as possible.
  4. Fill both triangles with the same color, you might want to apply a generous amount to only use one coat.
  5. Remove the guides and let everything dry.
  6. Cut short pieces of striping tape to contour the triangles, this will add a little dimension and shine to your design.
  7. Carefully follow the borders of your nail and cut off the excess.
  8. Finish off by applying a top coat, I used a mattifying one for a pastel matte look. This will seal and smooth the design. If needed, you can add another coat to securely seal the tape.
